Family Nurse Practitioner

The Advanced Certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner program at the Brooklyn Campus provides a rich blend of interactive learning and real-world clinical experience. The learning experience enables family nurse practitioners to adeptly serve diverse communities, taking a holistic approach embedded within the context of families and communities. Our distinguished faculty members — with a wealth of real-world experience — guide students through a 19-credit curriculum precisely crafted to provide nurses with indispensable theoretical and  practical foundations.

Admissions Requirements

  • Applicants must have a master’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program (ACEN, NLNAC or CCNE) with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
  • Submit a copy of your current RN License. Applicants are required to have a minimum of one year of recent RN experience in a clinical area requiring such acute care skills as a hospital setting, home care or long term care facility.
  • Submit proof of certificate of basic life-support training.
  • Complete two letters of recommendation. References can be from the applicant’s superiors (manager, supervisor, staff educator) in the health care setting, or one from a superior and another from a faculty member where the applicant earned their baccalaureate or master’s degree in nursing. The letters should address the applicant’s academic and clinical skills and their ability to complete the program.
  • Submit a 200-250 word personal statement that addresses the reason you are interested in pursuing post-graduate work in this area of study.

Health Care Management

The Health Care Management Certificate program emphasizes the identification, analysis, and solutions of complex issues and problems facing the health care professional today. Students learn to evaluate techniques and develop strategic thinking skills so they can lead effectively, improve quality, increase productivity, and manage costs within their health care organizations.

If the applicant did not receive an undergraduate business degree, the essay should describe and provide an example or examples of the management/leadership techniques used by the applicant to manage effectively
  • Official College Transcripts. An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is required. Submit transcripts from all colleges attended. The Human Resources Management Certificate program provides practitioners with advanced study of current human resources trends and practices. The Management of Health Information Systems certificate program is designed to develop or enhance the students’ expertise in the planning, development, and implementation of health information systems. Students will focus on how health information systems can improve the delivery of health care with the latest methods and technologies for the collection, organization, use and evaluation of health care information.

School Building Leader

The School Building Leader (SBL) Advanced Certificate Program provides the administrative candidate the theory and practice necessary in the preparation for becoming a School Building Leader. The course of study includes educational leadership and administration, educational law, policy and ethics, curriculum and instruction, and an administrative practicum at the school building level. Upon completion of the program, the administrative candidate will have been exposed to the knowledge, skills and dispositions required of school building leaders, thereby providing a strong foundation for taking the NYS SBL certification examination.

Admissions Requirements

  • A non-refundable $25 application fee.
  • An official graduate transcript from any colleges or universities attended. (Applicants to the program should have completed an accredited teacher education undergraduate and graduate program with a minimum 3.0 GPA).
  • Two letters of recommendation are required, with at least one from an academic source, and at least one from a professional source.
  • The candidate should submit a current resume, which includes chronological dates of employment or student teaching.
  • A copy of the candidate's NYS teacher certification should be submitted with the application. 
  • A personal statement.

School District Leader

The School District Leader (SDL) Advanced Certificate Program provides the administrative candidate the theory and practice necessary in the preparation for becoming a School District Leader. TESOL

The Advanced Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is designed to prepare certified teachers who already hold their master’s degree to understand the foundations of English as an additional language. This program demonstrates literacy and language teaching techniques while helping students develop skills and methods in teaching core subject areas in the students’ native language and in English. The program also cultivates an understanding of the roles of linguistics and grammar in second-language learning in grades K-12.

  • Copy of NYS teacher certification. If certification is pending, the candidate must demonstrate that he/she is actively working to complete it, and submit proof of it as soon as it is issued.
