Recently announced New York state legislation means now is the perfect time to become a certified Literacy Specialist. At St. Joseph’s University’s New York, skilled educators can earn additional certification in a virtual format that saves time and resources.

An Advanced Certificate in Literacy and Cognition enables individuals who hold a master’s degree in education and a teacher certification to earn an additional NYSED teaching certification as a Literacy Specialist in grades pre-kindergarten through grade 12. After taking 15 credits and completing 50 hours of fieldwork, successful candidates will be prepared to take the New York State Literacy CST and become a certified Literacy Specialist.
