Brooklyn Campus Orientations

September 8, 2026

Orientation program is designed to help new Bears feel at home on campus and prepare for academic success. You’ll meet fellow classmates and key SJNY staff, explore essential resources and offices, and get everything you need to start the semester strong.

• 9:30 a.m.: Check-In
  Location: Hill Center Lobby
  Students arrive and check in for orientation.
• 10 - 10:55 a.m.: Welcome Session
  Location: Hill Center Gym
  University Leadership will welcome new students.
• 10:55 - 11 a.m.: Orientation Leader (OL) Groups
  Students will break into their OL groups.
• 11 - 11:30 a.m.: OL Group Time
  Location: Throughout campus
  First-year and transfer students will split into groups with their OLs to get to know the campus and each other.
• 11:40 a.m. - Noon: Meet Your Major
  Location: Tuohy Hall (TH)
  Meet with department chairs or faculty advisors to learn more about your chosen major. OLs will guide students to their sessions.
• Noon - 1 p.m.: Lunch
  Location: Hill Center Gym
  Return to the Hill Center for lunch, music, and games, led by OLs.
• 1 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.: Campus 101
  Location: Throughout campus
  Students will reconvene with their OL groups to learn essential information about campus and the upcoming academic year.
• 2 p.m.: OL Group Campus Tours
  Location: Throughout campus
  OLs will lead tours to identify important locations such as classrooms, buildings, and common spaces.
• 3 p.m.: Conclusion of Formal Orientation
  The formal portion of New Student Orientation concludes. Students are welcome to visit the following offices for additional assistance:
  • Service Opportunity, 2 - 5 p.m.
    Location: Tuohy Hall, Student Lounge
  • New International Student Meeting, 3 - 4 p.m.
    Location: Tuohy Hall, Alumni Room
  • Academic Advising and Scheduling, 3 - 5 p.m.
    Location: Academic Advisement Center, McEntegart Hall Library (MCE) First Floor
  • Accessibility Services. 3 - 5 p.m.
    Location: McEntegart Hall, Room 300A
  • Bursar Assistance, 3- 5 p.m.
    Location: Tuohy Hall, 1st Floor
  • Financial Aid Assistance, 3 - 5 p.m.
    Location: Tuohy Hall, 1st Floor
  • Immunizations, 3 - 5 p.m.
    Location: Tuohy Hall, 1st Floor
  • IT Help Desk, 3 - 5 p.m.
  • Office of Counseling and Wellness, 3 - 5 p.m.
    Location: Tuohy Hall, Room 215, 2nd Floor
