Brooklyn M.S. in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

According to the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, the demand for mental health services in the United States continues to increase. With that comes the need for more psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNP). That’s where St. Joseph’s University, New York comes in. Through our PMHNP Master of Science program, students can receive the skills and knowledge needed to expertly offer psychiatric care to children, adolescence, adults and older adults. 

The 42-credit graduate program introduces students to theoretical and practical experiences that will assist will widening their scope of practice, while also preparing them to because leaders as advanced practice nurses. There to guidance students through the program are SJNY’s experienced faculty who will serve as mentors and advisors. Topics explore will include theories in psychiatric nursing, and mental and behavioral health among other studies. 

Outside the classroom are opportunities to conduct research, attend and present at local and regional conferences and network with a diverse of health care professionals. 

After completing the program, you will be eligible to take the Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and become certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), in addition to becoming licensed in New York state and/or any state in the USA as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP-P).
