Expanding on the first-class educational experience it delivers to its students, St. Joseph’s University is building a 32,000-square-foot Student Center at the heart of its Long Island campus in Patchogue.
The new space will become a central hub for student life and a home away from home for nearly 4,000 undergraduate and graduate learners. It will also feature spacious areas for faculty, staff, friends and partners within the community to enjoy.
Framing the northern end of the quad with O’Connor Hall, Callahan Library and the Danzi Center, the Student Center will feature indoor and outdoor spaces that provide views out across campus and of Patchogue Lake to the east.

Framing the northern end of a quad with O’Connor Hall, Callahan Library and the Danzi Center, the Student Center will feature indoor and outdoor spaces, looking out across campus and with views of Patchogue Lake to the east. Designed to be a central hub on campus, the Student Center will become a new “home-away-from-home” for our students, as well as a space to welcome our friends and partners from the community.
This new space will support student life and the vital role it plays in advancing the mission of the University through sponsorship of programs and activities that prepare each student for a life of integrity, spiritual depth, intellectual rigor, social responsibility and service. A new 1,500-square-foot Student Life Suite will provide new meeting and office spaces for numerous offices, including:
Student Life also guides and directs the Student Government Association (SGA), the Campus Activities Board (CAB), Sororities and Fraternities, and over forty academic, cultural and service related student clubs and organizations in a campus environment that values diversity and inclusiveness.
Our college and our campus is growing. To best meet the needs of our students and faculty, the Student Center also includes five new classrooms, featuring state-of-the-art smart technology and the ability to remote learning opportunities and colleagues on the Brooklyn Campus, seven new faculty offices and a computer lab to support student work and collaboration. Located on the second floor, more than 5,500 square feet of new workspaces will enhance the capacity of our faculty, students, and academic programs including new and growing degree programs in education, social work, nursing, and many other departments.
The building will have many sustainable design features and will conform to New York state’s 2020 Energy Efficiency Code. Among the sustainable features are solar shading devices, daylight and occupancy light controls, low flow plumbing fixtures, and a continuous air barrier that limits air infiltration.
