Center for Counseling and Wellness
Your partner on your path to wellness...
Founded on the belief that one's physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health is directly related to one's ability to reach their fullest personal and academic potential, the Counseling and Wellness Center’s mission is to support all aspects of the St. Joseph's University community’s well-being. We strive to empower our students to build upon their strengths, resources and resiliency, and to attain their academic aspirations while becoming positive and productive members of society.
The Counseling and Wellness Center supports the University’s mission of encouraging students to live a life that is worthy of the St. Joseph's University motto: Esse non videri — “To be, not to seem."
Our vision is to advance the University campus by promoting a healthy, productive academic community through our commitment to the very best in quality and service.
Our Long Island Counseling and Wellness Center provides comprehensive short-term, goal-directed counseling in a confidential environment for our students. Our counselors help you explore your experiences with the goal of developing awareness and skills to meet life's challenges. These services are free and confidential; they are available so that students can flourish academically, emotionally and socially.
We offer multi-culturally competent and evidence-based treatment approaches to meet the diverse needs of our students. We also partner with local universities in the training and supervision of graduate externs/interns who provide clinical services to our students.
Wellness services are also an integral part of the Counseling and Wellness Center. Our nurse offers medical screenings, first aid and triage, and she supports our Peer Health educators in providing outreach services. Our Peer Health educators are trained to speak with students who are in need of confidential health guidance from someone that can relate to them on a personal "peer-to-peer" level. They also plan and host events that support the well-being of their fellow classmates.
For students who may need higher levels of care who would benefit best from a community provider, we will collaborate with you to identify services that best meet your needs.
Seek help and support when problems arise. We encourage all students who are experiencing difficulties that could compromise their ability to remain enrolled at St. Joseph’s University to contact us immediately to set up an appointment with a counselor.
The Counseling and Wellness Center is committed to affirming and respecting people of all backgrounds. We aim to respond respectfully and empathetically to each person’s unique struggle, personal history and cultural background.
All services are free and confidential. No information is recorded on your school record.
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
