Student Teaching

To be eligible in their senior year, majors must receive approval from the Child Study Recommendations Committee, which determines whether the student has demonstrated the personal and professional qualities necessary for teaching, good communication skills (written and oral) and a cumulative average and an average in the Child Study courses of 2.8 or higher.

A student may appeal the committee’s decision in writing. Student teaching application forms for CS 414 and CS 424 (Long Island) must be submitted to the coordinators of field placement within one week of the application seminar, which is held on or about October 15 and March 15. A $25 fee will be charged for applications received after these dates.

Students are required to submit their résumé with the application. Majors should plan to take a maximum of 12 to 14 credits during student teaching semesters.
