Campus Ministry's many events, in conjunction with other areas of student life, ensures that St. Joseph’s can be your home away from home.
Our team hosts activities that build life-giving relationships. Social events, such as festive luncheons, ski trips, sporting events and plays, encourage students to come together and build friendships with people of varying backgrounds and interests.
Here's a quick overview at what semester events our Office of Campus Ministry offers.
All Masses are generally at 1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Chapel inside O'Connor Hall, Fr. Frank is our celebrant. At the beginning of each semester, the official celebratory liturgy is held to bestow a blessing on the campus community for the school year. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Chapel is set up with soft music, meditations and candlelight as a peaceful, quiet environment for all of St. Joseph's University.
We host the NY Special Olympics in the Danzi Athletic Center. Each year, volunteers change the Danzi Athletic Center Center into a day of celebratory athletic competitions for special athletes and coaches.
We collect and deliver cases of food and donations to local families and outreach centers, while disseminating information about hunger, homelessness and need. Numerous individuals, offices and clubs participate. For the three weeks before Thanksgiving, St. Joseph's University will be collecting food, store gift cards and holiday items. They will be delivered to local agencies and families in need.
Staff and students bake 50 pumpkin pies and deliver them to soup kitchens and food pantries. We start with a pie baking lesson and then break into teams and bake dozens of pies. Then we deliver them to the families in need and the agencies that support them.
We adopt 30 families for the holidays, advertise their wishes, coordinate the gift-giving (from all across the campus!) and volunteers pack and deliver the gifts to the families before the holiday.
To celebrate the end of the Fall Semester as well as prepare for the donating of Christmas gifts we host an annual Wrap Party where we spend the last day of finals wrapping all of the gifts that will be donated to families in need. This gives us all a chance to end the semester on a positive and charitable note.
Campus Ministry participates with St. Joseph the Worker Soup Kitchen once a month as well as St. Anthony’s Shelter (Bronx, NY). When volunteering with these kitchens we cook and engage with the community of participants in need.
This celebratory luncheon recognizes the St. Joseph's University members who have been exemplary in their service efforts.
Students can use the events calendar within the Student Involvement and Leadership portal page for event details.
