A Message from St. Joseph’s University, New York on the Israel-Hamas War

November 10, 2023

Given our special emphasis on the Catholic tradition and the spiritual values we hold so dear, I feel it important to emphasize our continued commitment to peace and solidarity with all those who seek to find solutions to the current turmoil in the Middle East. To paraphrase from a statement by our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph, we grieve with those who grieve, and seek release of those held captive.

We pray for all those caught up in the winds of war, and we stand with all the leaders of faith throughout the world who seek a better road. St. Joseph’s University remains opposed to any form of hate or violence, and we pray most sincerely for justice, an end to hostilities, and an end to suffering in the land that is a cradle of faith for millions across the globe.

Many of our community members have been impacted by this tragedy, both directly and indirectly. Counseling and support services are available to all members of the University community who are struggling to deal with the traumatic events that continue to overwhelm the entire world.
