Department of Human Services to Host Seminar on “December Blues”

December 02, 2014

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – December 2, 2014 – The Department of Human Services at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) will host a panel discussion titled, “December Blues: Coping with Holiday Stress” on Saturday, December 6 from 12-1 p.m. in the Shea Conference Room on the College’s Long Island Campus.

“For most of us, December is a month of anticipation, preparation and enjoyment,” said Carolyn Gallogly, Ph.D., associate professor of human services at SJC. “But, for those who suffer from mental illness or who are lonely, December can be an added stress because their lives do not reflect the joy of the season.”

Panelists include Robyn Berger-Gaston, ACSW, LCSW-R, division director of youth and senior services at Family Service League and Greta Guarton, executive director of the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless.

Intended for those who work with persons experiencing loss, depression, isolation and stress in their lives, the speakers will discuss how to better meet the needs of those suffering from December blues.

This event is free and open to the public. To RSVP, email [email protected]. For more information about SJC, visit www.sjny.edu.
