Nurses are consistently in high demand, especially in New York, and St. Joseph’s nursing program in Brooklyn prepares you for professional practice in traditional and unstructured health care settings. Find your place in the ever-changing field of nursing.
(For traditional undergraduate students.) The ways in which nurses were educated during the 20th century are no longer adequate for dealing with the realities of healthcare in today’s fast-paced, high-tech world of medicine. Many institutions now require registered nurses to hold a bachelor’s degree for this reason.
Given the increasing healthcare demands of our population, experts predict that, by 2020, the U.S. will need 1.2 million more professionally qualified nurses than our country is currently preparing. At St. Joseph’s University, our mission is to help curb that shortage by offering a four-year, BS in nursing program for undergraduates.
Our program, which is strictly for registered nurses, focuses on nursing theory and the promotion, restoration and maintenance of health for clients, the development of critical thinking and decision-making skills, and the development of leadership skills appropriate to beginning professional practice.
As adult learners, nursing students have unique needs and are diverse in their experiential backgrounds. We promote self-directed learning, increasing the student’s existing professional knowledge base and facilitating change in professional role perceptions and behavior.
