BROOKLYN and PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – March 14, 2023 – St. Joseph’s University, New York (SJNY) is pleased to announce that SJNY President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., has once again been named to the 2023 City & State New York Higher Education Power 100 List, highlighting New York's most influential people in academia, including leaders of some of the best-known colleges, universities and professional schools.

“I am extremely honored to be selected to this year’s Power 100 List,” said President Boomgaarden. “The past few years have been challenging, but I remain optimistic about the post-pandemic future of higher education in New York, and specifically of St. Joseph’s University. I congratulate my fellow honorees on their selection to this prestigious list and look forward to our continued good work in educating future leaders.”

Embarking on his third strategic plan journey during his tenure, he has also been at the forefront of a successful reaccreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the launch of two prior consecutive strategic plans, successfully doubled the University’s endowment and saw record high enrollments on all three campuses — Brooklyn, Long Island and Online.

Dr. Boomgaarden serves on the board of trustees for the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU); is Board Chair of the Association of Colleges of Sisters of St. Joseph (ACSSJ), a national organization of colleges and universities across the nation; a steering committee member of the Long Island Regional Advisory Council on Higher Education (LIRACHE), where he is also chair to the Superintendents and College President’s Partnership; and is chair of the Lower Hudson Valley Consortium of Catholic Colleges and Universities.

Dr. Boomgaarden is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, and also studied at the University of Vienna, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. He graduated from Harvard University’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education, and has held teaching positions at the Eastman School of Music, Ithaca College Conservatory of Music, St. Mary’s College in Maryland, the Institut für Musikwissenschaft at the University of Salzburg, Loyola University Maryland and Loyola University New Orleans.
