SJC Sponsors Community Service Project

October 28, 2015

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – October 28, 2015 – SJC Brooklyn is pleased to announce that it will partner with the Brooklyn Education Innovation Network (BE.IN), Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and the Cadman Park Conservancy to clean up Cadman Plaza Park on Sunday, November 8 from 10 a.m. to noon.

“At SJC Brooklyn, community service is an integral part of the student experience,” said Sherrie Van Arnam, vice president of student life at SJC Brooklyn.  “By participating in projects such as this, our students make a contribution to their community and gain an appreciation of how their actions can have a positive impact on others.”

As part of BE.IN’s regularly scheduled College Town Service Day, SJC Brooklyn students will gather trash, remove graffiti and rake leaves as they work with their peers from colleges in downtown Brooklyn and veterans to clean up Cadman Plaza Park. Through these events, BE.IN and its member colleges and universities seek to engage the 60,000 students who study in the downtown Brooklyn area and channel their collective energies to improve the community as a whole.

“We’re grateful for SJC Brooklyn’s support of our community service project at Cadman Plaza Park and thank them for their sponsorship,” said Dr. Edward Summers, executive director of BE.IN. “Their commitment to both the downtown Brooklyn community and providing educational opportunities to our nation’s veterans is much appreciated."
