SJC Brooklyn Partners with Grandma’s Love to Serve Families in Need

November 12, 2018

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – November 12, 2018 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it once again partnered with Grandma’s Love to prepare Thanksgiving food baskets for Brooklyn families in need. Building upon the success of last year’s collection, this year’s project aims to prepare 90 baskets of food for families across the borough so that they can enjoy the holiday with their loved ones.

“The holidays are a time to celebrate family and to express gratitude for life's blessings,” said Sherrie Van Arnam, vice president for student life at SJC Brooklyn. “Our ongoing collaboration with Grandma's Love enables our students to channel their appreciation for all they have so that others can enjoy a holiday with their families.”

Sponsored by SJC Brooklyn’s Student Government Association (SGA) and the Campus Activities Board (CAB), this program brings together student athletic teams, clubs and administrative offices to provide food items to include in baskets for families. Last year, the SJC Brooklyn community collected enough food to completely cover five eight-foot long tables and easily exceeded their original goal of making 50 baskets for families. This year’s baskets will be packed and delivered on Friday, November 16, in preparation for the upcoming holiday.

“Throughout the year, Grandma's Love seeks to nourish the bodies and minds of young people in Brooklyn by providing them with the food and books they need to grow,” said Theresa Monforte-Caraballo, founder of Grandma's Love. “Our partnership with St. Joseph's College amplifies our efforts through the overwhelming kindness of their students and community, enabling us to provide full Thanksgiving meals.”
