Faculty Member Presents Seminar on Economics

BROOKLYN, NY - November 16, 2009 - St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that Dr. Richard Torz, associate professor of economics, will present the fall faculty seminar at 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18 in McEntegart Hall, Room 403.

At this seminar, Dr. Torz will give a lecture entitled, "The Impact of The Financial Crisis on the European Union. As part of his ongoing analysis of the economic impact on the European Union, Dr. Torz will discuss how recent global economic troubles have hindered the ability of the euro to compete with the dollar as a global currency. In addition, he will also speak about how the global financial crisis has affected the prospects of future European Union expansion. This event is open to the St. Josephs College community. Lunch will be served at 12:35 p.m.  

Dr. Torz, who received his Ph.D. from the City University of New York Graduate School and University Center, is an active member of the Northeast Business and Economics Association (NBEA) and the Eastern Economics Association (EEA). He has served on the Board of Directors of the NBEA, continues to serve on the Conference Program Committee of the EEA, and is a referee/reviewer for The Journal of Business and Economic Studies. His current research interests involve the analysis of issues related to the economic and monetary union (EMU) within the EU. He recently organized the EU-EMU Working Group, composed of scholars from various universities and organizations who engage in research on the EU and the EMU. This group presents panel sessions at academic and professional conferences during the year.
