March 11, 2016

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – March 11, 2016 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC), in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, is pleased to announce that Charles Bock will discuss his latest work, Alice and Oliver, in conversation with Hannah Tinti. This talk, the fourth of SJC Brooklyn’s Brooklyn Voices series, will take place on Monday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in SJC’s Tuohy Hall Auditorium.

"As our students begin adulthood, Bock's tale of hardship and love in the face of a life-altering challenge presents a picture of perseverance through adversity,” said Jill Rehmann, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs at SJC Brooklyn. ”I find the vein of hope that runs throughout this work as the protagonists confront these challenges inspiring.”

Award-winning and New York Times best-selling author, Charles Bock, earned vast critical acclaim for his debut novel, Beautiful Children. In his new novel, Alice and Oliver, inspired by his own life, he has created an unflinching yet deeply humane portrait of a young family’s journey through a medical crisis. Highly praised by fellow authors including Joshua Ferris, Rivka Galchen, Richard Price and Andrew Solomon, Alice and Oliver is a deeply affecting novel written with stunning reserves of compassion, humor and wisdom. Bock will talk about his work with Hannah Tinti, editor of One Story Magazine and author of numerous books including Animal Crackers and The Good Thief

Tickets for this event are $28 and include a copy of the book. There will be an opportunity to have the book signed by Bock following the discussion. For more information, contact Michael Banach at 718.940.5584 or [email protected].
