St. Joseph’s College (SJC), in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, is pleased to welcome PEN World Voices who present Pen vs. Sward: Satire vs. the State featuring Mo Rocca, Abdourahman Waberi, Aleksandar Hemon, Masha Gessen and moderated by Elissa Schappell. Founded in the aftermath of September 11, 2001 with the aim of broadening channels of dialogue between the U.S. and the world, PEN World Voices is the only international literary festival in America, and the only one in the world with a human rights focus. This event includes a panel discussion with Mo Rocca, CBS Sunday Morning’s correspondent and journalist; Djiboutian novelist Abdourahman Waberi; Bosnian-born novelist Aleksandar Hemon; and Russian-American journalist Masha Gessen who will discuss state powers that often out-satirize fiction.

Each $10 ticket benefits PEN America. Books by featured authors will be offered for sale at the event and all authors will sign books following the discussion.
