An Advanced Certificate in Literacy and Cognition enables individuals who hold a master’s degree in education and a teacher certification to earn an additional NYSED teaching certification as a Literacy Specialist in grades pre-kindergarten through grade 12. After taking 15 credits and completing 50 hours of fieldwork, successful candidates will be prepared to take the New York State Literacy CST and become a certified Literacy Specialist.

St. Joseph’s University’s Advanced Certificate in Literacy and Cognition program offers exceptional preparation focused on the Science of Reading and evidenced-based practices, including an emphasis on Structured Literacy.

In addition, graduates of the program develop the knowledge and skills necessary to identify the signs of dyslexia and provide effective interventions.
