BROOKLYN and PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – September 9, 2026 – St. Joseph’s University, New York (SJNY) is pleased to announce its recognition among the nation’s top colleges and universities in TIME’s inaugural America’s Best Colleges ranking, as well as its selection as one of Money’s Best Colleges in America, earning a 4.5 star rating, and its designation as a 2026-2027 College of Distinction. SJNY is ranked No. 142 among the nation’s colleges in TIME’s inaugural 2026–2027 America’s Best Colleges rankings, placing the University among the top 30% of institutions nationally and further distinguishing SJNY among leading institutions in the Northeast.
“On behalf of the St. Joseph’s community, we are honored to be listed among some of the top-tiered educational institutions in the country for these rankings, which are a testament of our commitment and dedication to student success,” said SJNY President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D. “Our foremost commitment is to provide an exceptional, accessible education grounded in strong values—equipping St. Joseph’s graduates with the knowledge, character and purpose to pursue meaningful, successful careers and lead lives of fulfillment, service and lasting impact.”
To compile their inaugural list, TIME conducted a comprehensive analysis to identify top-performing colleges nationwide, based on criteria such as, student outcomes, learning environment and attractiveness to prospective students. For the list of Best Colleges in America, Money assessed colleges and universities based on quality of education, graduation rates, affordability, financial aid and outcomes for alumni. Colleges of Distinction evaluated schools on engagement, teaching, community and outcomes to highlight institutions with engaged students, dedicated faculty, vibrant communities and successful outcomes, such as high graduation rates and strong alumni networks.
Offering small class sizes (12:1 student-to-faculty ratio), a vibrant student life, robust programs, experiential learning opportunities and commitment to compassionate service to others, SJNY’s commitment to keeping costs down and standards high means its tuition rates are among the lowest of private colleges and universities in the region, allowing students to earn a degree of value at an affordable cost.
In addition, the University consistently ranks high among its peers on the annual U.S. News & World Report’s Regional Universities (North) list, ranking it among the nation’s top universities for its high graduation and retention rates, financial resources per student, peer assessment and student-to-faculty ratio.
