SJC to Host Small Business Technology Seminar Series

Patchogue, N.Y. – October 16, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) and the Town of Huntington Small Business Incubator are pleased to partner for a series of business seminars for small businesses titled, “Know the Basics.” Hosted by distinguished business technology professionals, this seminar series will focus on presentation and organization skills and social media.

“Last year's workshops were well received by the community, and based on feedback, this year’s program will help meet the needs of both current and prospective members of the Incubator and community at large,” said Dr. Gail Lamberta, L.I. Campus associate dean and chairperson for the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at SJC. “As part of its mission, SJC continues to work with the Town of Huntington to support educational programs and services that will contribute to the vitality of the communities served by the Brooklyn and Long Island campuses.”

The “Know the Basics” Seminar Series includes:

Tuesday, October 21 – Using Prezi and Other Cool Tools of the Trade to Enhance a Presentation, presented by Amy Poland, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at SJC. This seminar will teach attendees how to utilize technology to help tell their story beyond PowerPoint. Attendees are encouraged to bring a tablet computer to ensure an interactive learning session.

Thursday, November 20 – Getting Organized for Everyday People, presented by Francine Pollaci, a seasoned communicator with years of experience in public speaking and adult education. This introductory workshop will introduce attendees to concepts, resources and techniques that will assist them in getting organized.

Monday, December 8 – Tweeting Your Way to Business Success, presented by Brian Wasson, training specialist at SJC and an educational technology enthusiast who has been helping educators, adults and students integrate technology into their work and professional lives for the past 18 years. Attendees will gain knowledge on how to get started on Twitter, understand specific lingo, connect effectively with followers, search and use hashtags and use third party Twitter tools.
