SJC to Host Human Services Career Event

Patchogue, NY June 28, 2011 The Department of Community Health and Human Services at St. Josephs College will host "Human Services Careers in Difficult Times on Wednesday, July 13 at its Long Island Campus in Patchogue, NY.

Human services agencies, especially those in the public sector, are experiencing financial challenges, while the needs of the community are increasing. "Human Services Careers in Difficult Times will advise agencies on how to become more resilient during the economic decline and offer career advice to those in search of human services positions.

"I hope that those who join us on the 13th can take home with them a new perspective on human services today, said Dr. Carolyn Gallogly, coordinator for the event and associate professor at St. Josephs College.

Featured lectures will include:

  • "How to Lead Human Service Agencies in Difficult Economic Times by Executive Director Paule Pachter of Long Island Cares, Inc. The Harry Chapin Food Bank
  • "Career Opportunities in Alcoholism and Addictions Counseling by Heather Woods, Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC)
  • "Why I Chose a Human Services Career by students from the M.S. in Human Services Leadership program
