SJC Announces New Dual Degree Programs on L.I. Campus

PATCHOGUE, NY MARCH 4, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce the addition of six new five-year dual degree programs to its Master of Arts degree in Adolescence Special Education with an annotation in Severe and Multiple Disabilities on its Long Island Campus located in Patchogue, N.Y.

SJCs new dual degree programs allow students to earn both a bachelors and masters degree in five years, at an affordable rate. The program will be offered to qualified undergraduate students who are in a B.A. or B.S. program in Adolescence Education in the following disciplines: English, chemistry, history, mathematics and Spanish and wish to earn an M.A. in Special Education with an Annotation in Severe and Multiple Disabilities.

Interested students with a minimum 3.0 cumulative G.P.A. are eligible to apply during the spring semester of their sophomore year. Students must file an application, submit a writing sample, provide two letters of recommendation from professors and interview with the program director. Once enrolled, students must successfully complete 128 credits needed for the bachelors degree and N.Y.S. teacher certification, including 12 graduate credits taken during the junior and senior years that will count toward the M.A. degree. During the fifth year, students will take the remaining 24 credits to earn a M.A. in Adolescence Special Education with an Annotation in Severe and Multiple Disabilities.

The Masters in Childhood or Adolescence Special Education with an annotation in Severe and Multiple Disabilities is a 36-credit degree program. Offered through the School of Professional and Graduate Studies at SJC, the program leads to New York Certification in Childhood Special Education or Adolescent Special Education and Annotated Certification in Severe and Multiple Disabilities from birth to 21 years old.

These six new dual degrees join four other traditional dual degree programs offered at the College: B.S./M.B.A. in Accounting, B.S. in Organizational Management/Executive M.B.A., B.S. in Health Administration/M.B.A. in Health Care Management and B.S. in Organizational Management/M.S. in Management with a concentration in Human Resources Management as well as the online B.S. in Organizational Management/Executive M.B.A.
