May 13, 2013

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. MAY 14, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is proud to announce that Richard Margulis 85, adjunct professor of health administration in the School of Professional and Graduate Studies on the Long Island Campus, has assumed the role of chief executive officer at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in Patchogue, N.Y.

"Richard has made so many valuable contributions to the College, said John Sardelis, Dr.P.H., associate chairperson and associate professor of health administration at SJC. "He is an outstanding instructor, a powerful voice in support of SJC and a generous partner offering insightful advice about the future of health care on Long Island.

Prior to his appointment as CEO, Mr. Margulis was the chief operating officer of Brookhaven Hospital for seven years, after starting at the Hospital in 1982 as an x-ray technician. Mr. Margulis holds a bachelors degree from SJC and an Executive Master of Science in Business Administration from Dowling College.

"I have always valued my relationship with St. Joseph's College and see the opportunity to expand upon it. It started as an undergraduate student where I learned from some of the most expert health care leaders in their fields, to teaching at the College for the last 15 years. Teaching allows me to bring the experience and the knowledge I have gained in health care into the classroom, said Mr. Margulis. "Over the years, our two organizations have collaborated on various efforts for both of our institutions, as well as for the greater Patchogue community. I look forward to future opportunities such as the College's development of its hospitality and tourism program.

Mr. Margulis became the CEO of Brookhaven Hospital in April 2013; he succeeds former CEO Thomas Ockers. He was raised in Smithtown, N.Y. and currently lives in Brookhaven, N.Y.
