kSJC and Nassau BOCES Host Child Study Conference

PATCHOGUE, NY JANUARY 6, 2009 The Department of Child Study at St. Josephs College in conjunction with Nassau BOCES will be hosting a conference entitled, "The Conversations Continue School and Community Collaboration, II: Learning in the Early Years on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The conference is a continuation of last years well-attended conference, which took place at Hofstra University.

The goal of this years conference is to expose adults in schools and the community, in addition to parents and caregivers, to the promotion of healthy social, emotional, physical and cognitive development in children. A panel discussion on the current state of childcare and education will include:

  • Kathleen Deerr National Coordinator, Family Place Laboratories; Assistant Director, Outreach Services and National Family Place Project; Middle Country Public Library

  • Dr. Dana Friedman Executive Director, Early Years Institute

  • Dr. Mary Fritz Professor of Early Childhood Education, St. Josephs College

  • Dr. Dina Lieser Executive Director, Docs for Tots

  • Kathleen Walsh Director, Office of Children with Special Needs, Nassau County Department of Health
