October 30, 2015

Patchogue, N.Y. – October 30, 2015 – The Department of Athletics at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is proud to announce that SJC Long Island’s women’s and men’s cross country teams placed first and second, respectively, in the Skyline Conference Championship on Saturday, October 24. In addition, the Golden Eagles women’s tennis team took second place in its Conference Championship.

The cross country Skyline Conference Championship took place at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, New York. For the women’s cross country team, it was their sixth-straight conference title and their ninth in 10 years under Coach Jim Crowley. The first five female finishers for the Golden Eagles received All-Skyline Conference First-Team honors. The women’s team also received honors for Most Outstanding Runner for Samantha Maurice ’16, Rookie of the Year for Erin MacDonell ’18 and Coach of the Year for Jim Crowley.

“We went into the meet with high expectations and we feel very fortunate that the team performed up to our lofty goals,” said Jim Crowley, head coach of the women’s and men’s cross country teams at SJC Long Island. “The seniors led the way and the underclassmen followed in their footsteps. We will miss the leadership of our seniors, but they have taught the younger women what we expect and how we expect to achieve it.”

For the men, Ryan Haun ’19, five-time Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, posted a 5K time that was 14 seconds better than any other runner at the men’s Championship. He also received Most Outstanding Runner and All-Skyline First Team honors.

“The men placed as well as we had expected,” said Crowley. “We lost to a very good Maritime team, but with the conference champion and two other All-Skyline performers returning, we look forward to continued success for the men also.”

The women’s tennis team participated in the Skyline Conference Championship on Saturday, October 24 in Farmingdale, New York, taking second place in the Championship.
