Bio

Pamela Lovejoy, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of biology on the Brooklyn Campus. Dr. Lovejoy holds a B.A. in Biology from Connecticut College and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Binghamton University. She focuses her research on the effects of genes and the environment on the development and behavior of organisms; as well as whether these elements and their interactions affect males and females differently. For her research, she uses the model organism, Drosophila melanogaster (the common fruit fly), as well as molecular-genetic, developmental, behavioral, and statistical approaches to understand the consequences of exposure to environmental toxicants, such as pesticides.

Scholarly & Professional Interests

I am interested in the effects of genes and the environment on the development and behavior of organisms. While genetic and environmental factors can have independent effects on a trait, they can also have interesting interactions. For example, certain genetic variants may only affect a trait within a particular environment. I am also interested in whether these elements and their interactions affect males and females differently. For my research, I use the model organism, Drosophila melanogaster (the common fruit fly), as well as molecular-genetic, developmental, behavioral, and statistical approaches to understand the consequences of exposure to environmental toxicants such as pesticides.
