A Letter of Welcome from President Boomgaarden

Esse non videri – “To be, not to seem.” These words are the motto of St. Joseph's University, a coeducational, comprehensive college that holds firmly to its history as a liberal arts institution in the tradition of the Sisters of St. Joseph. For over 100 years, we have educated young people and adult learners in the arts and sciences, as well as in the professional fields.

Peruse our websites – and I say websites, because we have no less than THREE campuses – in Brooklyn; in Patchogue, Long Island; and Online. A quick glance at our programs, faculty members, activities and successes will verify that we really are – we do not seem to be – a leading institution of higher education. We are also affordable, having been rated as one of the best buys in education in the Northeast by Washington Monthly and Great Value Colleges. Additionally, we were named among Forbes Magazine's list of America’s Top Colleges.

Whether your interests are in the liberal arts, the sciences or the professional fields (such as teaching, nursing, health care management and business), we offer programs on the undergraduate and graduate levels, along with a full array of online options. Most importantly, whatever programs you choose to specialize in, the core of a St. Joseph’s experience is built on the educational foundations of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Over the centuries, these women have excelled in transforming young minds (and some not so young!), not only shaping their intellects, but touching their hearts as well.

Come and visit us! Make an appointment to meet with our staff, program directors, chairs or faculty members. I know you will be amazed at the vitality, spirit and joy you will find here.

Sincerely,

Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D.
President of St. Joseph's University, New York
